Unexpectedly Single Again

When we hear the word “widow”, we often think of little old ladies who were married for many years and their spouse passed away after a long life. Yet, the reality is that widows come in all genders and ages. From unexpected losses due to accidents to a loved one laying down their life for the freedoms we have in America, widows make up nearly 15% of the single population and have an average age of 57. Many are women, but men also experience loss of a spouse.

Scripture is clear that the Church is to reach out and minister to widows and see that they are ministered to. Single adult groups need to be intentional when reaching out to widows of all ages and genders and show them God’s love. Widows are single and though they may have a much different past from yours, widows need a place to connect with other singles for discipleship and fellowship.

Table for One Ministries wants you to know that as a widow or widower God loves you and you are not alone when you have Him by your side. You may feel comfortable staying in your current social network as when your spouse was with you and that is certainly acceptable. But know that there are singles out there that will embrace you into their ministries and offer a place for you to connect in this new stage of your life. Grief Share is also a ministry that specializes in counseling for widows and can be a place of healing for you during your loss. On their site you can find local groups to join and help process your grief in a safe and loving environment.
